Here's Lily! by Nancy Rue

the lily series

Tommy Nelson 9781400319497

Lily is an awkward sixth grade who gets teased a lot. Throughout the story there is a lot of teasing, some malicious some in fun while Lily finds new self-confidence through modeling classes. Lily finds that while her unique looks make her get picked on, they are also what make her special. The story starts slow but has an extremely dramatic ending. The paperback cover looked a little young at first for this age level but I think once you've read the story you are drawn in to the character and it makes the cover more likeable. I thought the story started slow but once I had gotten past the first couple chapters I really enjoyed the characters and message. Lily does eventually find out what God has to do with modeling and the changes she make in viewing her self-image not only help her but also other girls who have been picked on at school which is great for today's kids who have to deal with bullying. The character has believable growth throughout the story although at first the characters seemed to be written a little young for sixth grade. By the end of the story I thought it was well thought out overall and Lily seems to be a realistic and wholesome character that young girls will enjoy.

I would recommend this series to Christian families looking for reading for their fourth through sixth grade girls.

I received this book for free from BookSneeze for this review. I am not paid for my review.
